Reporting & Writing:

Here, you will find a collection of my published pieces that showcase my reporting and writing skills, in addition to exemplifying my development as a student journalist within the four years I have been a part of The Cougar Chronicle staff. The presented pieces demonstrate my learning and practice of research, interviewing, and consolidation abilities. This section further encapsulates my growth as a writer and how I produce quality content that connects with, informs, and engages our community. I hope to exhibit my versatility and strength as a writer in addition to my dedication to continuous improvement and consistently thorough and accurate content.

News

The stories I have selected for this section cover primarily local issues. From walkouts that interrogated our school's relationship with marginalized students and sparked a cultural shift to our school's first musical production post-COVID, I learned how to incorporate human interest into news pieces to provide connective and compelling content. Above all, I hope my dedication to accuracy, clarity, and detail that came as a result of investigative interviews and research analysis exemplifies my careful and determined attitude as a student journalist.

Features

Features are my favorite stories to write. Humanity's best sides of kindness and joy come alive when our minds are opened and we explore how our own experiences are similar to or different from others'; through pursuing in-depth personal angles that maintain accuracy and honesty, features accomplish just that. The stories you will find in this section are selected for their in-depth coverage, strong writing, and unique insight into community livelihoods.

Opinions & Reviews

Opinions and reviews are a unique and often underappreciated journalistic opportunity. As a result of being protected under the New Voices Law in Washington State, I published pieces which discuss topics that are criticized for their controversiality or are perceived as indecent or inappropriate in other areas of the country; from queer issues to reproductive rights to a subtle reckoning with my own mental health, I hope these opinion and review pieces highlight my passion for social justice and hope for collective unity in times of strife.

Sports

I grew up playing soccer. For ten years, my weekday nights and weekend mornings were spent in cleats and a uniform on the pitch, fueled by passion for the sport and love for my teammates. When the opportunity came to combine my love for soccer and student athleticism with my passion for student journalism, I jumped at it. These stories feature athletic successes, but also student journeys with the sport,  incorporating the quintessential human interest aspect of any piece of journalistic work.
